Three facts I learnt were that 250,000 people were killed and many more were injured in the earthquake in Haiti. One 500 times more powerful, hits the country of Chile and the Haiti earthquake measured in at 7, and the Chile Earthquake was at 8.8 on the Richter scale. Two understandings I had were its terrible that earthquakes happen in poor countries and earthquakes are quite scary when you are in them. Something I’m wondering is how much money did it cost to repair both cities from the earthquakes?
Three facts I learnt were that most earthquakes happen within a region called the ‘Ring of Fire’ and it’s given its name because most of the world’s active volcanoes are in this ring. The earthquake that hit Christchurch in march 2011 was caused 5 km underground. Two understandings I had were that it must be hard to live in a place like New Zealand where they have lots of earthquakes and the people in New Zealand must find it hard to clean up all of the parts of collapsed buildings. Some thing I’m still wondering is why does the earth have a liquid layer of mantle?
“Quickly, lets get out of here!” I could not hear anything above the roaring flame I took a deep breath in and seemed like my mind had gone as foggy as the smoke around me. “I meant NOW!” I ran, I had to leave the forest burning. I felt someone grab me and pull me along, I closed my eyes hoping this was all a bad dream. I thought someone had pinched me really hard this person must have been a mind reader. But they weren’t. It was a burning hot ember and that class, this is how I got my scar.
My goal was to have a story that was related to our integrated topic natural disasters.
I thought someone was throwing buckets of water on the window hoping they’d get my attention. It didn’t work, I was bored. I imagined what it would be like to have all I could see, food, fun, maybe all this chocolate. Yum, chocolate! My thoughts wondered away and suddenly I was no longer bored! After a minute or two I was thinking about ruling the world and becoming an artist. That’s it! I’ll draw a picture.
Ten years later…
“That will be $1 000 sir.”
“That’s a great price, you’re the best prime minister ever!”
“Just thank the rain…”
My goal was to use show not tell. Instead of saying it was raining I said “I thought someone was throwing buckets of water on the window”.
“Woo! Sport class!”
“Yay! P.E time!”
“Er… Guys, Mr Angery’s here…”
Just then Mr Angery yelled at everyone. No-one liked Mr Angery everyone thought he was always acting weird. “RIGHT!” He boomed, “HURRY UP! IN SOCCER, THE GOALS CAN’T SHOOT THEMSELVES! Red with rage, Mr Angery blew his temper and his whistle and everyone disappeared. He hated his job, he hated the school, he hated everything but the thing he hated the most was kids, all kids. His life-long dream was to get rid of everyone of them and that’s what he did until the whistle was stolen…
Three facts are Lego has become increasingly violent over its 67 year history, 30% of all Lego kits contain weapons like swords, guns and lightsabers and 40% of pages in Lego catalogues show violent or threatening behaviour. Two understandings have are violent toys are not a good thing and they might encourage bad behavior. A question I’m left with is why is lego violent? To see the BtN I watched click here!
This story was actually an edited version of one I wrote in 40 minutes during an assessment. The plot and story was the same, the only main difference was that in the original there was a narrator telling the story but in this one it’s in the wolf’s perspective. The wolf’s character, Mika, is based on my pet husky Mika who is much like the book character. Fun, loving and a bit silly, Mika is one of the main characters because of her love for Maddy or Friend as she is known as in the story. The reason my characters are like this is because the theme is friendship and the message is “Don’t take friends for granted when you treat them badly”.
“Hey! I’m sitting here!”
“No! I am! Wait, what? You’re a carved out man! How can you talk?”
“That’s an insult! I’m a statue, not a carving! Also, I’ve been sitting here since the chair was made. I WAS HERE FIRST!”
“Alright, alright but where were you before the chair was built?”
“Well, if you get off this chair I will tell you.”
“Fine.” The man reluctantly stood up off the chair and stomped off.
“Gee, I don’t believe it! I try to have a conversation with any one and they just walk off.” The statue said, as another man came…

My goal was to make a good conversation and use talking marks in my story to make it more interesting.
Three facts in learned were in the last 10 years half of the world’s rhino have been killed, in 15 years they’ll be extinct and there won’t be any rhinos left in the wild. Also, across Africa since 2008 nearly 6000 rhinos have been lost. Two understandings I had is that Poaching is a really bad thing to doand the rhinos will be extinct very soon.A question I’m left with is Why do people kill rhinos? Huddled around the campfire, my class told each other ghost stories. A few people got quite scared by them so they went back into their tents. As we finished a ghost story we heard a howl. I turned around and my friend was gone. The wolf approached me as the flames flickered and then went out mysteriously. The full moon shone bright for a second and then went away. The wolf ran away as I went to light fire. Only to find my friend again with the somehow familiar yellow wolf eyes staring at me…

My goal was to create a sense of horror and suspense to try and get the reader to read on.
